It has been an amazing event – the Webit Conference 2022 and more importantly the Founders Game. I had the privilege to be among the jury for the pitching start up. More than 3000 Start ups have been competing over the several months in several rounds to get to the culmination of the Founders Games event – one day live pitching by more than 50 companies competing for the prize of 6 mln USD.
It was exhausting yet energizing experience! When I first met the world of start ups it was through the book of Jason Calacanis Angel. Jason is masterfully describing his own journey from scouting for Sequoya to becoming one of the most successful angel investor in the world. It was such an exciting read. I realized this is such a messy field, full of young and enthusiastic people trying to solve different problems for the world. This was a stark contrast to the well organized company I was working for and to the negativity that was coming out of the news every single day.
This was so appealing I immediately felt attracted to this space and wanted to become part to this eco system. It did not happen immediately, it happened over a period of 3 years. It was consistent effort to learn about the eco system, how it functions, what is important for these companies and founders and to be able to support them and enable them to create more positivity, better solutions and better future for all of us.
And here I was, 3 years after my first meeting with the start up eco system, listening to the presentations of these amazing people who are fighting every day to move a bit further towards their dreams.
Being the founder is far from easy and it requires a great deal of dedication, purpose, believe and stamina to deal with the challenges of the path chosen. It will often give you sleepless nights and anxiety whether you are on the right path to achieve what you have set up for yourself.
Money problems, execution problems, team problems, family problems. And they also come multiple at a time. Still these people are keeping the energy and spirit high because they believe they can do great stuff.
Congratulations to the 6 start ups who made it to the top in their verticals and winning a check of 500,000 USD each. Wechselgott, Alver World, Cake, Eco tree, 360 Vuz!
After a full day of pitching I was feeling happy that I had the honour to meet such amazing people!
